PURPOSE:To ensure that a paper end detector can be easily mounted to a printer on a user basis when the detector is not mounted to the printer as an option and enhance operability of the printer, by providing a paper end detector which can be mounted and dismounted. CONSTITUTION:A paper 10 is set to an automatic paper-supplying device, and arms 14 of a holding member 6 for the paper end detector 5 are fitted into openings 4 so that the paper 10 is passed through a position where a paper end detecting element 7 is provided in the holding member 6. A connector 9 is fitted into one of connectors 27, 28 which is closer to the paper end detector 5, and the paper 10 is inserted into the holding member 6 from a side end part of a guide plate 13 of the member 6. A source power is supplied to a light- emitting diode 16, a phototransistor 17 receives the light projected from the diode 16 and reflected by the paper 10, and a paper end signal Se is inputted to a controlling circuit 33,which can discriminate the presence or absence of the paper 10 on the basis of the paper end signal Se.
