PURPOSE:To lower manufacturing cost and to enhance the operability of a printer by using one connector in a printer side and excluding a change-over switch, by providing terminals discriminating a kind to automatic sheet feeder and tractor feeder sides. CONSTITUTION:By respectively setting the third terminal 32 of a connector 27 and the third terminal 63 of a connector 60 to an earth terminal and an open terminal, the potential of the discrimination signal S0 inputted through the third terminal 36 of a connector 28 is changed between [H] and [L] and said terminals act as ones for discriminating whether an automatic paper feed apparatus is an automatic sheet feeder or a tractor feeder. Therefore, only by inserting the connector 27 of the automatic sheet feeder or the connector 60 of the tractor feeder 41 in the connector 28 in the side of a printer 1, a control circuit 29 can discriminate whether the mounted automatic paper feed apparatus is the automatic sheet feeder or the tractor feeder and the number of connectors in the side of the printer 1 can be reduced to one and it is unnecessary to provide a change-over switch.
