PURPOSE:To generate mechanically an appropriate sentence by designating one of a corresponding word, a synonym or a similar word as a converted word corresponding to a KANA (Japanese syllabary) character string or a Roman alphabet string which has been inputted, and executing KANA-KANJI (Chinese character) conversion. CONSTITUTION:A KANA character string or a Roman alphabet string which has been inputted from a keyboard 1 is converted to a KANA and KANJI mixed character string in a converting part 4, and outputted to a display part 7. That it to say, the converting part 4 inputs character data 103, executes KANA-KANJI conversion by retrieving a dictionary part 5 in accordance with a conversion control signal 101b and sends out KANJI data 105. In this case, the signal 101b designates whether one of a corresponding word or a synonym or a similar word of the data 103 is selected as the data 105 or not. A display control part 6 inputs the data 103 and the data 105, and output data 106 is outputted in accordance with a display control signal 101a and displayed on a display part 7. In this way, an appropriate sentence can be generated mechani cally.
