Data carrier with tactile security feature

The carrier (1) has a substrate comprising a paper layer, where two sides of the substrate are completely covered by a polymeric coating layer. The substrate and the polymeric coating layer are congruently arranged with each other, and comprise tactilely detectable embossed structures (2-4). The embossed structures are produced by the action of an embossing tool on the polymeric coating layer and the substrate, where height of the embossed structures ranges preferably between 80 microns and 280 microns. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a data carrier for holding a value document such as bank note and badge.
