PURPOSE:To permit manual welding or fully automatic welding in water by disposing a foam generator near the tip of a torch and creating the cavity of gas around the base metals and weld zone in the stage of welding. CONSTITUTION:The annular foam generator 2 is disposed around the tip 1 of the torch. The foam generator 2 constitutes a metallic or plastic housing 3 and is attached with a supply pipe 4 for supplying a shielding gas. The shielding gas G supplied from the pipe 4 is injected through small through-holes 5 bored to a bottom disk 6 of the housing 3 and is mixed with liquid to form fine foam P which is blown so as to enclose the arc weld zone A. The cavity 10 is formed by the gas, etc. which the metal melted by the heat of the arc generates. Welding is thus executed.
