PURPOSE:To decrease the possibility of mis-connection by providing a means for displaying a telephone number of a terminal equipment to be called returned from an exchange to a terminal equipment to confirm the telephone number received by the exchange. CONSTITUTION:When a call signal SU(DA) is sent from a terminal equipment 11 via a subscriber line 11 to an exchange 12, a reception telephone number return section 13 forms a confirming signal CP(DA) including the telephone number DA of the terminal equipment to be called received from the call signal SU(DA) and returns it to an outgoing terminal equipment 11. In the terminal equipment 11, the confirmation signal CP(DA) returned from the exchange 12 via the subscriber line 10 is sent to a signal control circuit 5 via an interface circuit 9. The signal control circuit 5 extracts the telephone number DA included in the signal CP(DA) returned from the exchange 12, stores it in a register 53 and controls a display circuit 6 to display the telephone number DA stored in the register 53 on a display device 7.
