The present invention relates to a method for counter-spiralling an extensible cable link 1, wound helically and having touching turns on a mandrel 2, consisting in unwinding this cable link from the mandrel and then in winding this link in the opposite direction, characterised in that, at the exit of the mandrel 2, this cable link is driven between a drive roller 20 and a short spindle 30, then this cable link is wound onto the end of this spindle with a few turns and finally the turns of the cable link leaving the end of the spindle are rotationally driven, thereby inserting them into a rotating sheath 40, the completed cable link leaving the sheath under its own weight. It also relates to an installation for implementation of the method. This invention applies especially to the manufacture of telephone leads. <IMAGE>
