PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel diphenyl sulfone derivative useful for obtaining an organic EL (Electorluminescence) element driven by a low voltage and having a high efficiency by using a host material which keeps high triplet energy while exhibiting a bipolar property and is suitable for phosphorescence material, to provide a host material comprising the novel diphenyl sulfone derivative and to provide an organic EL using the diphenyl sulfone derivative.SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescence element made by interposing at least one layer of organic layer between a pair of electrodes has a configuration including a layer containing a diphenyl sulfone derivative represented by general formula (1). In the formula(1), at least one of substituents Rto Ris a carbazole group and the substituents Rto Rbesides the carbazole group are groups each independently selected from any of hydrogen, 1-6C straight chain or branched alkyl group, an alkoxy group containing 1-6C straight chain or branched alkylamino group, a cyano group and a phenyl group. |
