PURPOSE:To make the speed detecting device small-sized and to decrease the cost with a simple constitution by providing the photodetecting and light emitting elements in the upward and downward directions of the transparent roller, receiving the shaft supporting part of the transparent roller with the V-groove of the frame and holding it with the spring from the opposite side. CONSTITUTION:A detecting roller 8 is in a single body with a shaft 12, and the shaft 12 is abutted to V-groove parts 13a and 13b of a frame 13 and held by a plate spring 14 from the opposite side of the V groove parts 13a and 13b. In the axial direction, both edge surfaces of the shaft 12 can be abutted by the frame and the clearance, in the backward direction of the plate spring 14, there is a holding plate 15 by a certain clearance, and dissolving cannot be executed even when the external force of the plate spring 14 or above is applied to the detecting roller 8. At the detecting roller 8, a disk 16 having the hole where the light can pass at a constant interval on the circular circumference is fixed concentrically. On the other hand, a fixed plate 17 having the hole where the light can pass at a constant interval on the circular circumference is fixed concentrically with the shaft 12 even at the frame 13, and a light emitting element 18 and a photodetecting element 19 are provided at the upper and lower directions of the detecting roller 8. Thus, the miniaturization and the low- priced constitution can be executed.
