PURPOSE:To enhance the accuracy and to reduce the weight of a planar type linear DC motor by suitably disposing a plurality of permanent magnets on the flat surface of a nonmagnetic unit to form a stator, and disposing a movable element having X-axial and Y-axial coils oppositely to the stator. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of permanent magnets 5 are disposed on a flat plate 3 of nonmagnetic material in reverse polarity to each other in perpendicular U and V directions to form a stator 1. A movable element 7 is composed by burying X-axial coils Cx1, Cx2 and Y-axial coils Cy1, Cy2 in grooves formed in a magnetic unit to move in parallel with perpendicularly crossing X- and Y-axis at 45 deg. to U- and V-axis at the prescribed gap oppositely to the stator 1.
