The apparatus (6, 7) is intended in particular for a twin-wire papermachine, where it is inserted in the region of the support roller (4) downstream of a first forming roller (2'). It should reliably remove the quantity of pulp water arising from the fibre material web (1) even at web speeds of between 150 and more than 100 m/minute. For this purpose, the apparatus has two housings (6 and 10). The first housing (6) is bounded by a covering wall (7) starting at the run-off of the wires (8, 9) from the first forming roller (2) up to about the vertex (5) of the support roller (4) and is arranged at a small distance (17) from and parallel to the wires, continues to a second housing (10) and bounds a passage (11) which joins the first and second housings. The second housing (10) is prismatic, and its length (12), as viewed in the direction of running of the wire, is a fraction of its height (13) which is greater than the clear width of the passage (11). In the second housing (10), baffles (14) are arranged for directing the pulp water stream to an end wall (15) of the housing (10), where an opening (16) for discharging the pulp water from the housing is provided. It is advantageous that the distance (17) between the covering wall (7) and the wires upstream of the vertex (5) of the support roller (4) is only slightly greater than the thickness of the water film which forms on the covering wall (7) in operation. <IMAGE>
