PURPOSE:To shorten the detection processing time by not using the whole of an edge detecting operator for detection of a maximum edge intensity and a density gradient direction. CONSTITUTION:The edge detecting operator is allowed to act upon every picture element of picture data 1 by an acting part 2, and code bits are stored in a storage part 3, and the comparison processing based on data from the acting part 2 is performed by a comparison processing part 4. Comparison processing results are stored in the storage part 3, and stored code bits and comparison processing results are sued to detect the maximum edge intensity and the density gradient direction of the picture. |
