In the case of a permanent-magnet-energized machine, especially a small motor, in order to reduce the power-to-weight ratio of the machine, at least one butt joint (17), which is located approximately in the centre of a two-piece magnet segment (15), is provided in the magnetic return path ring (14) of the stator (13). The machine is constructed on the basis of a defined radial air gap width from the interior, as a result of which tolerances in the radial thickness of the magnet segments (15, 16) and of the magnetic return path ring (14) are compensated for in the butt joint (17). The radial air gap width can thus be selected to be extremely small, and the magnet segments (15, 16) can be designed to be relatively thin (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
