Quite a few spatial delimitations, such as the body delimiting a motor vehicle interior, for example, have a natural frequency situated in the audio frequency range or ultrasonic range. When the body is impacted by a vibration situated in these ranges, the body vibrates at the frequency thereof. In addition, characteristic harmonics are formed for each body. When the motor vehicle is broken into, for example by smashing a window or opening a door, the spectrum of the characteristic harmonics is changed. This change in the harmonic spectrum is detected by measurement technology. An alarm is triggered in the event of a change situated outside a window of tolerance.
