PURPOSE:To perform the tracking of a steel belt, by calculating back to a pulse rate at every pulse generator attached to a feed roller from a mean value of operational values of each steel belt length and then compensating each pulse setting value. CONSTITUTION:When a front end weld point of a steel belt S equivalent to one coil is detected by a first weld point detector 2 at the inlet side of a first rolling zone 1a in a continuous rolling line 1, a first steel belt length arithmetic unit 5 integrates an oscillating pulse number out of a first pulse oscillator 4, multiplying this value by a pulse rate setting value out of a first pulse rate setter 6, and operation for a leading value of the steel belt S from the point when the front end weld point of the steel belt S is detected is started, whereby length of the steel belt S till that point when a rear end weld point of the steel belt S is detected by the first detector 2 is calculated. Likewise, length of the steel belt S of both second and third zones 1b an 1c is calculated, and a pulse rate at every pulse oscillator 4 is made in inverse operation from these means values, calculating the length of the steel belt S equivalent to one coil.
