PURPOSE:To reduce color mis-alignment due to overflow and underflow correction as the result of edge emphasis by applying edge emphasis including MTF correction after color correction processing. CONSTITUTION:In applying gradation expression with the area gradation, an MTF correction circuit to improve the resolution of a picture completes color correction processing comprising gamma correction processing, masking processing, UCR processing and black generation processing and the further processing is performed by a gradation processing circuit. The 1st processing system is provided with an 8X8 averaging circuit 150 and a density pattern processing circuit 153 and applies gradation processing by the density pattern method. An edge emphasis circuit 152 of the 2nd gradation processing system is a 2-dimension space filter and amplifies the density change of the area data when the input data has a density level change, that is, edge information exists to emphasize the edge.
