PURPOSE:To enhance further the practicality by providing an index area storing an index data of each message in an IC memory so as to facilitate increase/ decrease in the IC memory in a telephone automatic response system using the IC memory as a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:When a power supply circuit is driven, a microcomputer 11 is initialized to attain interruption waiting state (HALT). In operating a recording key * of an operation section 12, the microcomputer 11 receives an interruption and a stat address [an address starting write of a voice data, e.g., 400 (hexadecimal)] is written in an address [e.g., 0 (hexadecimal)] of the IC memory 13 designated by the interruption. That is, the voice data is written from the address 400 (hexadecimal) in the IC memory 13, and addresses 0-33FF (hexadecimal) are an index area in which a start address, a stop address and an identification code are written.
