PURPOSE:To generate new various applications by providing an optical character reader with functions printing characters which can be read by this reader. CONSTITUTION:An optical character reader 200 consists of a character reading means 210, a printing means 220, a form feeding means 230, and a system control part 240. The character reading means 210 reads a red object 110 to detect the position of the read object 110 and recognize characters read from the object 110. The printing means 220 prints characters, which can be recognized by the character reading means 210, in a prescribed position of the read object 110. The system control part 240 controls respective operations of the character reading means 210, the printing means 220, and the form feeding means 230. The system control part 240 is connected to a high-order host system 120 through an interface 130.
