The opening and locking arrangement is situated in the rear part of the loading space of refuse collection vehicles. The rear door is arranged in such a way that it can be rotated between the open and closed positions in the vertical plane in the rear part of the loading space about the spindle situated on the upper edge of the said loading space. Rotation is carried out by at least one hydraulic piston/cylinder assembly, which acts between the rear door and the loading space. The rear door and the loading space having locking parts which interact to lock the rear door in its closed position onto the loading space. The loading space has a mainly vertical guide. A slide is situated in the guide, to which slide the first end of the doubly acting piston/cylinder assembly is connected, while the second end is connected to the rear door. The slide furthermore includes one of the two locking parts of the rear door. The slide has at the start a limited free run in the guide from the closed position of the rear door during movement of the piston/cylinder assembly in the opening direction to open the lock between the rear door and the loading space. At the end of the free run, a force-transmitting connection between the slide and the loading space is produced, as a result of which the opening movement of the piston/cylinder assembly is converted into an opening movement of the rear door. <IMAGE>
