The invention relates to a pressure generation system in which a compression chamber, via a suction valve and a discharge valve, is connected to a suction chamber and a discharge chamber, and which has a control device which under the influence of pressure from the discharge chamber actuates the suction valve. In order to achieve a simple construction of the pressure generator, especially of the control device, and a long service life without any impairments in functionality, the control device comprises a switching diaphragm which is arranged in the suction chamber and separates the suction chamber from a switching chamber, the latter communicating with the discharge chamber via an orifice.
