摘要 The invention relates to the removal of ions from a liquid, especially the desalination of seawater and the like. It is proposed that, in a separation cell (1) through which the liquid is flowing, an electric field (8) is maintained in the flow direction by means of electrodes (5, 6), and at the same time to have a magnetic field (B) acting perpendicular to the electric field (8) and the flow direction. As a result, the ions (9, 10) contained in the liquid are deflected perpendicularly to the electric field (8) and to the direction of the magnetic field (B), these deflections together with the effective Coulomb forces jointly resulting in a concentration shift of the ions. It is therefore possible to separate at the output side from the separation cell, via two outlet ports (3, 4), two part streams differently enriched in ions. By means of cascade-like connection in series of a plurality of separation cells, any degree of purification required can be achieved. <IMAGE>
