PURPOSE:To obtain the titled catalyst component having a high ability of stereoregular polymerization and a high activity, by bringing a Mg halide, a specified electron-donating compound, a titanium halide and an interhalogen compound or/and a halogen into contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:A magnesium halide-containing solid (A) (e.g., magnesium chloride), an electron-donating compound (B) having a structural part of formula I (wherein R is a 1-12C hydrocarbon or a 2-12C organic group having a structural part of formula II), e.g., 2-ethoxyethyl acetate or 2-methoxyethyl acetate, a titanium halide (C) (e.g., titanium tetrachloride) and an interhalogen compound (e.g., ICl, or ICl3) or/and a halogen (e.g., Cl2 or I2) (D) are brought into contact with each other. In this way, the purpose catalyst component for polymerization of an alpha-olefin (e.g., propylene) is obtained.
