PURPOSE:To prevent an error rate from deterioration even if a tap speed is slightly shifted between recording and reproducing by finding out a threshold to decide whether data are '0' or '1' and reading the data on the basis of the threshold. CONSTITUTION:A main memory 2 and a timer are connected to a microprocessor 1 and an audio cassette tape recorder 5 is connected to the microprocessor 1 through an I/O port 4. In the main memory 2, a threshold area 21 and a buffer part 22 for storing read data are formed. In this case, a threshold count for discriminating whether data are '0' or '1' prior to the reading of the data from a tape is set up and then the data are read out and decided. Thereby, the threshold count corresponds to the traveling speed of the tape, and even if the reproducing speed of the recorder 5 is slightly shifted from the recording speed, the threshold count corresponding to the traveling speed is obtained and the error rate can be prevented from deterioration.
