PURPOSE:To calculate the magnitude of repeated stress acting on fatigue crack, by measuring the shape of the fatigue crack and the opening displacement thereof. CONSTITUTION:When a fatigue crack 01D being an evaluation object pierces through a plate thickness, the lengths of the crack on the front and back surfaces of a steel plate 01A are measured by a non-destructive inspection method and, when the crack 01D does not pierce through the plate thickness, the length of the crack on the surface of the plate and the depth of the crack in the plate thickness direction are measured by the same method. Next, a mounting jig 2B is adhered to the surface of the steel plate 01A so as to interpose the crack 01D and a strain gauge 2A is mounted to said jig 2B to measure opening displacement by a strain gauge 2D. The magnitude of repeated stress acting on the crack 01D can be accurately calculated from the shape and opening displacement of the crack.
