PURPOSE:To obtain beautifully developed pattern, etc., by activating a mask formed on the surface of a molded synthetic resin article, stripping off a colored coated film formed thereon together with the mask, forming a decorating layer on the stripped part of the surface and applying a transparent paint on the whole surface of the object. CONSTITUTION:A mask 2 having a desired pattern is formed with a masking material consisting of a material having inferior adhesion to the base material 1 of a molded article. The whole surface of the molded article including the mask is activated by electric discharge treatment, etc., to form colored coated film 3 having sufficient adhesion to the base material 1 on the whole surface, then the mask 2 together with the coated film 3 thereon are stripped off. Further, the surface of the molded synthetic resin is activated again by the electric discharge treatment, etc., to form a pattern 4 with appropriate character and/or pattern on the treated surface by printing or transfer printing. Finally, a colorless or colored transparent paint is applied to the whole surface of the molded article to form coated film 5. As the result, patterns, etc., rich in variety is developed distinctly and beautifully.
