SURFACE-MOUNTING A CONNECTOR ON A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

An assembly of a surface mounting two-part printed circuit board connector and a printed circuit board, the edge of the printed circuit board and the connector being shaped to enable mutual engagement therebetween. The printed circuit board connector comprises two connector parts designed for mutual engagement, each connector part having a main body portion housing respective rows of contacts. The main body portions have a ramp or stepped portion whereby during their assembly portions are displaced relative to one another in a direction substantially orthogonal to their central axes to provide an optimum contact force between the contacts. A low initial insertion force is developed between the connector parts during assembly.
