A method and corresponding apparatus for decompressing compressed data content is described, wherein the data content is compressed by a selected one of a plurality of compression algorithms (20) complying to the signal compression standard, denoted SigComp, which is mandatory by the Third Generation Partnership Project, denoted 3GPP, and 3GPP2 standards for Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystems, denoted IMS, each of the compression algorithms (20) is identifiable by an compartment identifier and each of the compression algorithms (20) having a corresponding decompression algorithm capable of reproducing the data content from the compressed data content, the compressed data content transferred via a data packet protocol comprising at least one message transferring a decompression bytecode (22, 22', 22") suitable for interpretation to perform the corresponding decompression algorithm, the data packet protocol further comprising at least one message containing the compressed data content, the method comprising receiving (414) the at least one message, mapping the at least one message to a compartment and determining the compartment identifier, locating an accessible executable version of the corresponding decompression algorithm associated with the determined compartment identifier and decompressing (420) the compressed data content utilizing the located accessible executable version (38) of the corresponding decompression algorithm.
