PURPOSE:To decrease the number of trays and to reduce installing areas by carrying a carried original in the reverse direction to that so far taken to read picture information and using a recording paper tray provided at the same side as an original table in common for the original tray. CONSTITUTION:Originals 1 placed on the original table 2 are separated one by one sheet by a separation roller 13 and a separating chip 14 at first at transmission and fed into a main body 11 and the tip on the originals 1 is caught by a feeding roller 15 and fed until the tail end of the original comes near the feeding roller 15 while timing is taken by allowing a sensor 16 to detect the tail end of the original 1 and then the roller 15 is driven reversely. Then the original 1 is carried in the reverse direction toward the paper discharge path B and sub-scanned, the prescribed step number of feeds is conducted after the sensor 16 detects the tip of the roginal 1, a read section 17 reads sequentially the picture information at each line in the main scanning direction, and the tip of the read original 1 is caught by the feeding roller 18 and discharged into a tray 12.
