PURPOSE:To make correspond a recognizing time for one of original paper to the quantity of the original by detecting a page changing mark of the original paper to complete the recognizing processing. CONSTITUTION:An original of an original paper 1 fed every one line by a paper feeding mechanism 6 is read by an irradiated light, converted into a electric signal by a photoelectric converting part 7, supplied through a line buffer 8 and a character is recognized by a recognizing part 10. From the contents of this buffer 8, when a page changing mark is detected, a control part 12 is operated in response to a detecting output of a page changing mark detecting part 5 and when the recognizing processing by the recognizing part 10 is completed, the original paper 1 is discharged through the mechanism 6. Accordingly, the recognizing time for one of the original paper is changed in accordance with the quantity of the original and an useless recognition is not performed.
