<p>The present specification discloses a bearing in the form of a ball race or needle roller bearing wherein a number of balls (13) or needle rollers are rotatably supported in a cage (1). In known constructions of this type the cage (1) has relatively large dimensions as compared to the balls (13) or rollers and this can provide design problems in devices using such bearings. The present invention provides a bearing wherein the size of the rotatable components (13) i.e. balls or needle rollers, can be maximised whilst the cage (1) dimensions are minimised, thus aiding overall design for a mechanical device in which the bearing is located. The bearing comprises a cage (1) constructed of a resilient material, the cage (1) having a generally U-shaped transverse cross-section with a number of rotatable components (13) located between the arms (9) of the generally U-shaped cross-section cage (1), each component (13) extending partially through aligned apertures (11) in each of said arms (9).</p> |
