A compatibilised mixture of at least 3 polymers is prepared. A first polymer is a vinylidene chloride interpolymer, such as a copolymer of vinylidene chloride and vinyl chloride. A second polymer is an olefin polymer such as polyethylene. A third polymer is a compatibilising polymer such as an ethylene/alkyl acrylate copolymer or ethylene/alkyl methacrylate copolymer. After fusion treatment the compatibilised mixture has mechanical properties which are better than those predicted for a linear ratio of fractions by volume of the interpolymer of vinylidene chloride and the olefin polymer. Impact energy is one of the mechanical properties which is better for the compatibilised mixture than for the two-component mixture of the vinylidene chloride interpolymer and the olefin polymer.
