PURPOSE:To easily manufacture an optical multiplexer and demultiplexer by forming a multi-layered dielectric film to part of an incident face and forming the 1st total reflection face parallel with the incident face and the 2nd total reflection face inclined with said face. CONSTITUTION:The multi-layred dielectric film 2 is formed to part of the incident face 3 of a glass block 1 formed with the total reflection face 4 parallel with the incident face 3 and the total reflection face 5 inclined with the face 3. the film 2 is formed by alternate vapor deposition of, for example, TiO2 and SiO2 and the total reflection faces 4, 5 are formed by vapor deposition of a metal. The light of wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 is reflected by the total reflection face 4 and is made incident on the film 2 when said light is made incident directly on the incident face 3. The light of the wavelength lambda1 of the light reflected by the face 4 is transmitted through said film and the light of the other wavelength is reflected therefrom. The reflected light is made incident on the 2nd total reflection face 5. The light of the wavelength lambda2 is transmitted therethrough. The light of the wavelengths lambda1, lambda2 is thus demultiplexed by the same film 2. |
