PURPOSE:To obtain an ink sheet capable of transferring images with a uniform intermediate gradation density, by dispersing microcapsules containing an ink therein and differing in skin thickness on a base of an ink sheet for thermal transfer recording. CONSTITUTION:The ink sheet for thermal transfer recording comprises an ink layer 14 provided on the base 11 by coating, the ink layer 14 comprising three kinds of microcapsules 12A, 12B, 12C differing in the thickness of skin 18 which are dispersed in a heat-fusible binder 13. The microcapsules contains therein an ink 15 which is a liquid at normal temperature. As indicated by a curve 21, when the heating energy of a thermal printing head is 10mJ/mm<2>, uniform transferred images with a light color density of O.D.=0.2 can be obtained, and when the heating energy is 40mJ/mm<2>, uniform transferred images with a high density of O.D.=1.3 can be obtained. Accordingly, by varying the energy applied to the thermal printing head from a low level to a high level, the transferred density can be varied on an analog basis, and intermediate gradations can be recorded with favorable reproduction performance. |
