The needles are moved by means of at least one needle cam formed out of subsections. The subsections change over into each other without interruptions. The sinkers, which extend between the needles, can be moved by a sinker cam, also with subsections. After the reaching of the loop sinking depth, the ascent of the sinker cam is made steeper than that of the corresponding needle cam section. The ascent of the sinker cam in the area of the largest needle expulsion during knitting or catching over one ninth to one seventh of a knitting system width is close to zero and the sinker cam and/or the needle cam can be moved in sections or completely in a peripheral direction by a distance equivalent to one ninth to one seventh of the width of a knitting system.
|
