PURPOSE:To make unnecessary the exclusive-use sensor for detecting the position mark by using a part of a photoelectric converter for reading the writing image for detecting the sheet shifting quantity. CONSTITUTION:A sheet 3 is shifted by a roller 4, the image on the sheet is converged by an optical system 2, converted into the electrical signal by a photoelectric converter 1, given to a control circuit 5 and copied by a printer 6 in accordance with the necessity. The sheet 3 is equipped with a position mark, the optical system 2 is constituted to be able to converge so as to accommodate not only an effective writing area 31 but also the sign of the mark 7 shown by an oblique line into a reading area, and the photoelectric converter 1 has not only the writing image but also the position mark detecting part.
