<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an instrument for removing the coat of a strand easily by storing a thin fiber aggregate impregnated with a solvent in a wall-thinned cylindrical housing to be elastically deformed, inserting one end of an optical fiber strand into the housing and pulling out the strand while tightening the housing from the outside. CONSTITUTION:The aggregate 2 obtained by binding thin plastic-made fibers having about 2-10mu diameter in the fiber length direction and pregnated with a solvent 3 such as alcohol or CH2Cl2 capable of swelling the coat of an optical fiber strand 20 to remove it is stored in a plastic or alminum-made wall-thinned cylinder 1 to be elastically deformed and the cylinder is stored in a case 4 and covered with a cap 5 so as to be stocked. At the use of the instrument, the cap 5 is removed, one end of the optical fiber strand 20 is inserted into the fiber aggregate 2, and while pressing the cylinder from the outside as shown by an arrow 30, the strand 20 is pulled out. Consequently, the coat on the leading end of the strand 20 is easily removed. The puller can be continuously used >=100 times during the existence of the solvent 3.</p> |
