PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorescent screen structure of high resolution and make a color image display superior in its characteristic of resolution in the horizontal direction, by arranging three-elementary-color phosphor lines in parallel with the direction of horizontal scanning and composing three color selective grids in three-layered structure. CONSTITUTION:Three-elementary-color phosphors are applied to the inner surface of a face plate 1 in a chromatron tube, in the order of B-R-G-B-R-G... and in parallel with the direction of horizontal scanning. Grid electrodes are arranged on three different surfaces, successively facing the fluorescent screen in parallel on every other color phosphor line, and are electrically connected to every third of them, with other grids insulated electrically. Three groups of grids consist of grids 2a, which are fixed by a metal layer 4a, directly to a metal-made grid frame 3, grids 2b, which are fixed on the metal layer 4a through an insulation layer (e.g. alumina and the like) 5a, by the second metal layer 4b, and grids 2c, which are fixed on the second metal layer 4b by the third metal layer 4c through the second insulation layer 5b.
