PURPOSE:To enable image to be transferred with high image quality irrespective of surface conditions of a transfer recording paper, by providing a printing assistant layer formed of a material compatible with an ink, on an ink layer. CONSTITUTION:The thermal transfer medium comprises a base, a heat-fusible ink layer 2, and the printing assistant layer 1 provided thereon which is formed of a material which is compatible with the ink and shows a sticking and bonding force when being heated. When a thermal head partially generates heat according to a recording signal, the assistant layer 1 at that part is softened to be adhered to the transfer recording paper. In addition, the ink layer 2 is melted to mix with the softened assistant layer 1, and the mixed material is separated from the base 3. Accordingly, even when the surface of the transfer recording paper is rugged, the ink layer at the part corresponding to a heating part of the thermal head is entirely transferred to the paper, resulting in favorable image quality free of irregularities in printing. |
