1437336 Dewatering slurries G F SHATTOCK 7 Aug 1973 [26 Aug 1972] 39920/72 Heading F4G [Also in Division B1] Slurry dewatering apparatus comprises a dewatering screen 12 of flexible inextensible material not greater than 65 thousandths of an inch in thickness, the screen being passed through pressure rollers 16 to wring moisture out of the slurry. Screen 12 is driven solely by the rollers 16 and comprises an endless belt. In use aerated slurry is fed initially to a grit trap 64 having a wire container 82b for collecting solid objects, the slurry passing through baffles 84 to a feed shoot 88 feeding slurry on to screen 12. Moisture pressed out by the rollers 16 collects in a tray 40 and is removed by outlets 48, 50. The pressure exerted by the rollers is adjustable by means of a screw device 18. Slurry is removed from the belt by a brush 30, rotated through a belt 32, the pressure exerted by the brush being adjustable by means of a lever 34 and weights 38, the slurry then falling into a hopper 92, Fig. 11 (not shown), from which leads upwardly an Archimedian screw elevator (96) driven by a belt 102. In a modification of the apparatus, two belt screens are provided, one above the other, the finer mesh screen being provided below the coarser mesh screen for successive dewatering operations. The screen may be made from an artificial textile material, or from metallic material, glass fibre coated with polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, and may be coated with a polyurethane varnish. Slurries which may be dewatered using this apparatus include effluent, fibrous organic, and animal, such as pig or chicken manure. |
