A sliding bearing has a bush (4) with the earing surface (6) inside a housing (2), and rubber sleeves (5) inserted between the bush and the housing. To facilitate assembly of the bush in the housing the sleeves have, initially, a clearance (5) with the housing. - On completion of assembly the sleeves are expanded by the application of axial thrust. This is done by a ring (8) pressed into the housing at one end to urge the sleeves against a shoulder at the other end of the housing. If the bearing has axial segments, rubber elements introduced between the segments are expanded peripherally by axial pressure.
