<p>This invention relates to a method of producing steel from solid ferrous material (such as scrap) in a converter. According lo the invention, in each converter cycle, after scrap charging, a portion of a liquid charge originating from a preceding converter cycle is poured over the scrap. The total charge is melted down by injection of fuel and oxygen through melt-submerged injection nozzles. The tapped output is either (for repeat cycles) tapped into two holding vessels the content of which is used as liquid charge for the next two following charges, or (for production cycles) the whole tapped amount of steel is used for further processing, for example in a foundry. In that case, the steel melt is fully refined prior to topping.</p> |
