PURPOSE:The titled composite material having improved heat resistance and mechanical characteristics, obtained by blending a high polymer with poly(p- oxybenzoyl)crystal in a whisker state and poly(2-oxy-6-naphthoyl)crystal in a whisker state. CONSTITUTION:(A) Poly(p-oxybenzoyl)crystal in a whisker state and/or poly(2- oxy-6-naphthoyl)crystal in a whisker state and (B) another high polymer (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate) are incorporated to give the aimed material. The amount of the component A contained in the composite material is preferably 1-80wt%. Preferably the high polymer whiskers have a shape of 6-200mum length, 0.2-5mum diameter and >=10 L/D and >=85% crystallinity by X-ray measurement.
