PURPOSE:To obtain an electrostatic recording head capable of generating ions at comparatively low applied voltage by forming recessions on the surface of a dielectric material facing the opening of an electrode. CONSTITUTION:The recording head is provided with the first electrode 1, the second electrode2, the third electrode 3, the first dielectric material 11, and the second dielectric material 12. The electrode 2 makes up the matrix together with the electrode 1. By applying low-signal to the desired one of openings 14 corresponding to the cross points of the matrix, electrostatic latent images are obtained on an electrostatic recording medium 20. Recessions 26 are formed from the surface of the dielectric material 11 facing the opening 4 of the electrode 3 to the electrode 1. When high voltage is applied across the electrodes 1 and 2 to generate discharge in the discharge space, discharge starting voltage V is represented by a function of the product (Torr.cm) of the pressure P in the discharge space and the distance L between the electrode 2 and the dielectric material 11. Since the value of L is increased by the formation of the recessions 26, the discharge starting voltage can be lowered. |
