NEW MATERIAL:A nitro(polyfluoroalkyl)imidazole derivative expressed by formula I (A is H or halogen; R<1> is H, F or CF3; R<2> is OH, F or CF3; l is an integer 0-12; m and n are 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:5-Nitro-4-(pentafluoroethyl)imidazole. USE:A herbicide. PREPARATION:A (polyfluoroalkyl)imidazole expressed by formula II is nitrated with fuming nitric acid or mixed acid of concd. nitric acid and concd. sulfuric acid at 30-150 deg.C, preferably 80-120 deg.C for several minutes -30hr to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
