PURPOSE:To execute a continuous rolling reduction in the course of running of a forging material by a forging press, by bringing a forging press rolling reduction machine part to a reciprocating motion periodically in the forging material moving line direction by a reciprocating motion device. CONSTITUTION:Based on a speed command signal 14, a pinch roll 15 is driven, and simultaneously, a signal 14 is applied to a reciprocating motion setting device 11, a reciprocating cylinder 7 is made to expand and contract periodically by driving a servo-valve 10, through an arithmetic unit 13, and the whole forging press 1 is advanced by synchronizing with the movement of a slab 3. During that time, the rolling reduction of the slab 3 is executed by metallic molds 6, 6, and when the rolling reduction is ended, the metallic molds 6, 6 are withdrawn, and also, the whole press 1 is withdrawn, and said cycle is repeated. When bringing the slab 3 to a rolling reduction by the metallic molds 6, 6, when the slab 3 is pushed back, its force is detected by each measuring instrument 19, inputted to the unit 13 through an adder 20, a correcting command is outputted to the servo-valve 10 which is driven by the output of the setting device 11, and it is prevented that the slab 3 is pushed back to the upstream side.
