PURPOSE:To improve wettability of the surface of glass fiber for light transmitting line and to permit secure formation of coating film of a resin compsn. even if the wire drawing speed is increased by coating previously a liquid resin compsn. prior to execution of regular coating by passing light transmitting glass fiber through a liquid cell. CONSTITUTION:A liquid resin compsn. is precoated by means of a felt pad 16 on light transmitting glass fiber just after melt-drawing from a parent material 10. Then, the glass fiber is coated regularly with a liquid resin compsn. by passing the fiber through a liquid phase 12. In this stage, exertion of stress on the light transmitting glass fiber 11 is prevented by impregnating enough liquid resin into the felt pad 16 and separating the felt pad from each other with a certain distance. After coating the liquid resin compsn., the resin is baked to the fiber by heating in an electric furnace 14 to form coating film comprising the resin compsn. on the surface of the light transmitting glass fiber and the fiber is wound by a reel 15.
