PURPOSE:To obtain the printed matter including plural types of the dot expression rapidly and at a low cost by selecting either of plural types of the dot signal with the different dot shape and recording the dot picture. CONSTITUTION:In accordance with the density area or the hue area of either of color separation signals Y, M, C and K, an area signal outputted from an area discriminating circuit 3 is stored to an area signal part 2b of a memory device 2 corresponding to 1:1 with the color separation signal, for example, with the same address. In a dot type selecting circuit 4, in accordance with the area signal read from the memory device 2, the dot signal of either of the first type - the (n) type is alternatively selected and sent to a comparator 6 for forming the dot together with either of color separation signals Y-K of respective color plates to need the recording read simultaneously from the memory device 2. In the comparator 6, the magnitude between the density level of the picture signal and the dot signal read from a memory device 5 is compared, the comparator 6 converts and outputs the picture signal to an exposure control signal, and thus, the dot of the area ratio is recorded in accordance with the picture signal.
