PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin shown by a specific structural formula, useful as a coating compound adhesive or a modifying component for polyester resins, etc., by reacting a 2,5-dioxyterephthalic acid ester with an epihalohydrin and subjecting the reaction product to ring closure in the presence of an alkali. CONSTITUTION:(A) A 2,5-dioxyterephthalic ester shown by the formula I (R1 and R2 are 1-6C alkyl or cyclohexyl) is reacted with (B) an epihalohydrin (preferably epichlorohydrin) shown by the formula II (R3 is H or methyl; X is halogen). Then, the reaction product is subjected to ring closure in the presence of an alkali to give the aimed resin shown by the formula III (n is >=0).
