PURPOSE:To enhance and stabilize the quality of a positive image by coating a support with internally latent image type silver halide grains composed of at least 2 kinds of grains different in average grain size and illuminating it with illuminance increased continuously or stepwise at the time of whole uniform exposure. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide photographic sensitive material is obtained by coating the support with the adjusted internally latent image type silver halide grains containing at least 2 kinds of grains different in average grain size, and this photosensitive material is imagewise exposed, and uniformly exposed on the whole surface before or during development processing by increasing the illuminance continuously or stepwise to obtain a direct positive image. The optimum pattern of illuminance change of this exposure process depends upon the destined use and the performance of the photosensitive material, and it includes not only the simple continuous and stepwise increases of illuminance, but also complicated increase and decrease patterns and further, discontinuous exposure patterns, as shown on the right figures (A), (B), (C), (D), X being exposure time, and Y being exposure illuminance, thus permitting the obtained direct positive image to be enhanced in quality and increased in stability. |
