For the reduction of iron ore, the reduction gas (CO+H2) is generated by incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon, for example natural gas, with oxygen in an internal combustion engine, which at the same time provides mechanical work. By preheating the hydrocarbon and oxygen feeds and adjusting the quantitative ratios, the internal combustion engine is run in such a way that the exit gas has a temperature of at least 800 DEG C and can be fed to the reduction furnace directly or with only slight further heating.
|
